We will stroll around the Medieval streets of Lucca, going back to its Roman origins and observing how much the town has preserved the structure of the Medieval times.
The churches, the streets, the “corti” (small squares) and the “palazzos” (palaces) show us how rich and sophisticated Lucca was in the past. All the art and artifacts inside the churches demonstrate the wealth of the Lucchesi families, which was based primarily on the production and the trading of silk textile since the early days of the XI century. Even if Lucca was a small town, it was able to become a very powerful republic, capable of resisting all the enemies that tried several times to conquer Lucca, without succeeding, including Florence and the powerful Medici family.
